William's father was William D'Oyly and his mother was Elizabeth Stokes. His paternal grandparents were Edmund D'Oyly and Catherine Neville. He was an only child. He died in 1677.General Notes

Knighted in 1642 by Charles I for gallant behavior abroad in the service of Gustavus Adolphus, after whose death, he remained in foreign parts, before returning to take possessino of the family fortune.
