1. Roger D'Oyly, of Eston, in Oxfordshire, who became a military tenant of his cousins the Barons D'Oyly of Hocknorton, and was ancestor of the D'Oylys of Estcote and Pushull in Oxfordshire, afterwards of Greenland House, co. Bucks, and Chislehampton, co, Oxon, &c., who bore "Or, two bendlets azure," and were created Baronets in 1666; and of the Staffordshire, Suffolk, and Norfolk D'Oylys, who were created Baronets in 1663, and bore for arms stags' heads.

Roger D'Oyly of Eston, co. Oxon., (no doubt son of Gilbert D'Oyly, who accompanied his brothers Robert and Nigell to England in 1066,) was unquestionably the true founder of this family. He was living in Oxfordshire in 1131, as appears by the great Pipe Roll of the 31 Hen. I.[152] and was a military tenant under his potent kinsman, Robert D'Oyly, second Baron of Hocknorton, the founder of Oseney Abbey; holding lands in Eston, co. Oxon., of him, Like him, Roger D'Oyly became a great benefactor to Eynsham Abbey in Oxfordshire, giving it various lands in Eston, which grants were afterwards confirmed by D'Oyly, Baron of Hocknorton.[153] Roger D'Oyly married a lady named Hawise,153 but of what family is unrecorded, and by her had issue three sons,
