Joanna D'Oyly, baptized at Stadhampton, Aug. 1618; her mother dying very soon after her birth. She was her father's favourite child, and being handsomely provided for by his will, married, soon after 1634, John Michell, Esq. of Kingston Russell, co. Dorset, a gentleman of considerable wealth. His arms were, "Per chevron, argent and sable, three herons' heads erased counterchanged."—She died in 1659, and was buried in Longbridy Church, co. Dorset (the family burial place of the Michells), and by her said husband, who survived till 1670, and died leaving his eldest son 1,500l, per ann., his second 300l. per ann., and each of his daughters (though he had eleven children) a legacy of 2000l.,[336] had issue, inter alios,
1. John Michel, of Kingston Russell, born 1642, who married Penelope, dau. and coh. of John Bingham, of Melcomb Bingham, co. Dorset, and was ancestor of the Michells, now of Dewlish and Kingston Russell.
2. D'Oyly Michell, who died in 1726.
3. Dorothy Michell (3rd dau.), who was twice married; first to her cousin Thomas D'Oyly, hereafter mentioned; secondly to the celebrated divine Dr. John Owen. Of them hereafter.
