Cornelius D'Oyly. this Cornelius D'Oyly flourished temp. William III., and was no doubt the eldest son of the above Robert. In or before 8 Will. III. (1695-6) the said Cornelius D'Oyly married Anne, daughter of Richard Carter, Esq. of Collombe, co. Cornwall, Major in the army, a gentleman who possessed considerable property (inter alia estates in St. Newan's and St. Austell's, co. Cornwall,) temp. Car. I.,[536] and bore for arms, "Azure, two lions rampant combatant or." In 8 Will. III. Cornelius D'Oyly and Anne his wife were plaintiffs in a Chancery suit against one John Hodge; but only Hodge's answer having been discovered, the detail of the subject is doubtful. This Cornelius is the last recovered of the D'Oylys of Cornwall. It seems probable that after his time the family soon fell into poverty and obscurity, or became extinct.
