Maj-Gen. Charles Walters D'Oyly (9th Baronet Shottisham) 
Charles was born in 1822. Charles' father was Sir John Hadley D'Oyly (8th Baronet Shottisham) and his mother was Charlotte Thompson. His paternal grandparents were Sir John Hadley D'Oyly (6th Baronet Shottisham) and Diana Rochfort. He had a brother and a sister, named George and Diana. He had a half-brother named Warren. He died at the age of 78 in 1900.General Notes
He was educated at Addiscombe Military College, Addiscombe, London, England.1 He fought in the Gwalior campaign.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in the service of the Bengal Army.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dorset.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Baronet D'Oyly, of Shottisham, Norfolk [E., 1663] on 21 March 1869.

Entered the Bengal Army and served as Aide-de-Camp to the Governor-General from 1851 to 1856; he served in the Gwalior Campaign and the Indian Mutiny before retiring in 1875. He married twice; firstly to Emily Jane Nott, daughter of Major-General George Nott; secondly to Elinor Scott, daughter of James Winter Scott.
