III. Anne D'Oyly, who, attaining her majority, sued out her livery 43d Eliz., and was married May 1604, to Sir Thomas Gower of Stittenham, co. York, Bart. so created in June 1620, (son and heir of Thomas Gower, Esq. of the same place, by Mary his wife, daughter of Gabriel Fairfax of Steeton, in the same shire,) and dying in Oct. 1638, she was buried in St. Clement Danes Church, London, where an inscription remains to her memory. By Sir Thomas Gower (whose arms were, "Barry of eight argent and gules, a cross patonce sable,") she had issue,

Sir Thomas Gower, 2d Baronet, who was twice married; first, to Elizabeth Howard, sister of Charles Earl of Carlisle; and secondly, to Frances, daughter and coheir of Sir John Leveson of Haling, co. Kent, and Lilleshull, co. Salop; by the last of whom he was direct progenitor of George-Granville Leveson-Gower, now Duke of Sutherland, Marquis of Stafford, Earl Gower, &c.
2. D’Oyly Gower, Colonel of a Regiment of Dragoons, raised by his brother Sir Thomas, for King Charles I. when shut out of Hull; in whose service the Gower family suffered much. [587]
