Maria was born in 1853.  Maria's father was Alexander II of Russia and her mother was Marie of Hesse.  Her paternal grandparents were Nicholas I of Russia and Charlotte of Prussia; her maternal grandparents were Louis II of Hesse & by Rhine (Grand Duke) and Wilhelmine of Baden. She had two brothers named Alexander III and Vladimir Alexandrovich.  She was the youngest of the three known children.  She died at the age of 67 in 1920.
