Jacob was born in February 1739 in Plymouth,MA.  Jacob's father was Isaac Sampson and his mother was Elizabeth Hodges (Sampson).  His paternal grandparents were Isaac Sampson and Lydia Standish (Sampson). He had a brother and four sisters, named Isaac, Anna, Hannah, Eizabeth and Phebe.  He was the third oldest of the six children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Uriah, John, Hannah, Sarah, Margaret and Lydia.  He died at the age of 97 on January 27th, 1837.
