James' father was Con (Connel / Cornelius) Logan and his mother was Catherine (Kate) McAusland. His paternal grandparents were Francis (Frank) Logan and Catherine Hanlon; his maternal grandparents were John McAusland and Ann Carline. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Charlie, Grace and Kate. He was the oldest of the five children. He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, Catarrhal Pneumonia, at the age of 10 on April 20th, 1889 in 4 Cowgate, Greenock.
