Michael was born in 1856 in Greenock.¹ Michael's father was John McAusland and his mother was Ann Carline. His paternal grandparents were Hugh McAusland and Grace Herarty???; his maternal grandparents were James?? Carline and Catherine Higgins. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Hugh, John, James, Hugh, Patrick, Kate, Mary, Ann and Grace. He was the third oldest of the ten children. He died due to Phthisis at the age of 6 on April 14th, 1862 in Thomsons Close, Greenock.²
