Nancy, known as Nanny, was born on October 5th, 1822 in Quarmby Cum Lindley and her baptism took place on October 5th, 1822 in Salendine Nook Meeting House (Baptist).1 2  Nanny's father was James Wood and her mother was Martha Iredale.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Wood and Rebeccah Sykes. She had two brothers and a sister, named George, Humphrey and Ellen.  She was the oldest of the four children.
