Thomas' father was John Whitfield and his mother was Mary Tomlinson.  His maternal grandparents were Randle Tomlinson and Anne Tinsley. He had two sisters named Ann and Mary.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at 10 months old in October 1801.  He was buried on October 15th, 1801 in Marchwiel.¹
