Elizabeth was born in 1831 in Hulme (near Manchester) and her baptism took place on May 15th, 1831 in Manchester.1 2  Elizabeth's father was William Whitaker and her mother was Sarah Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Ellen Boardman. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, James, Mary, Sarah, Martha, Ellen and Emma.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 3 in August 1834.  Her burial was on August 22nd, 1834 in Whalley.3
