Peter's father was Andrew Waddicar and his mother was Sarah Mather. His maternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Mary Rostron. He had three brothers named Charles, George and Joshua. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 67 in January 1923 in Farnworth.²
