Sarah was born in 1841 in Breightmet.1  Sarah's father was Henry Twist and her mother was Mary Kirkman.  Her paternal grandparents were Peter Twist and Alice Lomax. She had a brother and four sisters, named John, Ellen, Eve, Catherine and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the six known children.
