Jane was born on June 1st, 1821 in Wigan and her baptism took place on November 5th, 1821 at All Saints (Wigan).1  Jane's father was James Topping and her mother was Alice Atherton. She had a brother and three sisters, named William, Ann, Martha and Elizabeth. She had an adopted sister named Alice. She had a half-brother named William.
