Thomas was born in 1778 in Malpas and his baptism took place on August 8th, 1778 at St. Oswalds (Malpas).1  Thomas' father was Randle Tomlinson and his mother was Martha Cartwright.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Tomlinson and Mary. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Randle, Thomas, Charles, Mary and Margaret.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
