Sarah was born on November 6th, 1813 in Cliviger & Mereclough and her baptism took place on December 14th, 1813 in Padiham.1 2  Sarah's father was John Slater and her mother was Susan Britcliffe. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Ralph, George, Robert, William, Betty, Hannah, Susy and Ann.  She was the youngest of the nine children.
