Annie was born in December 1886 in Atherton.1  Annie's father was Peter Shaw and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Metcalfe. She had two brothers and seven sisters, named Jack, Warren, Eliza, Polly, Jessie, Emma, Elsie, Winnie and Gertie.  She was the fifth oldest of the ten children.
