John was born on May 6th, 1873 in Little Hulton and his baptism took place on June 1st, 1873 at St. Mary (Deane).1 2  John's father was James Robinson and his mother was Ellen Hibbert.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel Hibbert and Martha Smith. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Samuel, James, George, Frank, Martha, Rachel and Ellen.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.

‌John and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on May 27th, 1899 at St. George (Little Bolton).3   The family line is yet to be completed.
