Robert's father was Frederick Thomas Parkinson and his mother was Eliza Ann Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Mather (Cunliffe) and Alice Heaton. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, Thomas, Fred, Sarah, Ethel, Lily and Hilda.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 86 on February 25th, 1984 in Bolton.  He was cremated on February 29th, 1984 in Lanarkshire.
