Robert was born in 1717 in Slaithwaite and his baptism took place there on June 13th, 1717.1  Robert's father was George Parkin and his mother was Susanna Harrison. He had two brothers and three sisters, named George, Joseph, Mary, Sarah and Anne.  He was the fifth oldest of the six known children.
