Parthenia was born in 1846 in Bolton.1  Parthenia's father was Philip Greenhalgh and her mother was Martha Gradwell. She had a brother and a sister, named Christopher and Ellen.  She was the oldest of the three known children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Joseph and Martha.
