Winifred was born in 1898. Winifred's father was Collingwood North and his mother was Emma Crow. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Crow and Martha Ellen Seymour. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, Frank, Nelson, Clara and Annie. He was the oldest of the six children.
