Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Sarah Fielding.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Mary Barret. He had two brothers named Ralph and George.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 55 in July 1887 in Bolton.  He was buried on July 30th, 1887 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.^3 4
