Susannah was born in 1826 in Bolton.¹

Susannah's father was James Mather and her mother was Catherine Rawsthorn or ROSTRON. Her paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Jane Mather. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Henry, James, Jane, Peggy, Lavinia and Lavinia. She was the oldest of the seven children.
