Sarah's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Mary Heyes. She had three brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Samuel, Catherine, Jane and Alice. She died at the age of 4 in December 1858 in Bolton. Her burial was in December 1858 at Tonge-with-Haulgh Cemetery.²³
