Samuel's father was John Mather and his mother was <unknown>. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Peter, Thomas, Thomas, John, Harry, Noah, Catherine, Ann and Betty.  He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 1 in February 1744 in Little Hulton.  He was buried on February 5th, 1744 at St. Mary (Deane).²
