Richard was born on January 1st, 1770 in Breightmet and his baptism took place on February 5th, 1770 at Bank Street Unitarian conducted by Reverend Philip Holland.1 2  Richard's father was Jeremiah Mather and his mother was Hannah Seddon.  His paternal grandparents were Peter Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Cranwhaw. He had two brothers named Jacob and Joseph.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He died at 3 months old in April 1770 in Breightmet.  His burial was on April 12th, 1770 at Turton Chapel.3 4
