Peggy's father was Robert Mather and her mother was Ann Ainsworth. Her paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Ellen Mather. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Thomas, James, Robert, Mary and Sarah. She was the oldest of the eight children.
