Mary was born in September 1851 in Little Bolton.1  Mary's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary Stott.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Mather and Mary Dawson. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Charles, John, James, Emma, Nancy, Sarah, Louisa, Alice and Annie.  She was the oldest of the ten children.  She died at 4 months old in January 1852 in Little Bolton.  She was buried on January 28th, 1852 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2 1
