Martha was born on August 6th, 1785 in Manchester and her baptism took place on September 28th, 1785 in Cross Street (Presbyterian).1  Martha's father was Abraham Mather and her mother was Hannah Dale.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Susanna (Susan) Smith. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Richard, Joseph, Sarah and Frances.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
