Maria was born in December 1850 in Chadderton.1  Maria's father was Wright Mather and her mother was Ann Bamford.  Her paternal grandparents were Michael Mather and Betty Street. She had four brothers and a sister, named Handel, Wright, Wright, Walter and Martha. She had an adopted sister named Mary.
