Hannah was born in 1837 in Radcliffe. Hannah's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Mary Taylor. Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Melling. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, James, Alice, Sarah, Eliza, Martha and Elizabeth. She was the third youngest of the eight children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named James and Mary.General Notes
