Emily's father was William Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Tate.  Her paternal grandparents were William Mather and Martha Barlow. She had four sisters named Marion, Adelina, Adelaide and Mary.  Adelaide and Emily were twins.  She died at the age of 4 in 1866 in Pemberton.¹
