Elizabeth, known as Betty, was born on May 14th, 1777 in Liverpool and her baptism took place on May 25th, 1777 at St. Nicholas (L'pool).1  Betty's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Ann (Nancy) Tyrer. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Henry, Richard, Thomas, Henry, Ann, Sarah, Hannah and Hannah.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
