Elizabeth was born in 1790 in Tyldesley.  Elizabeth's father was Jeffery Mather and her mother was Mary Hampson.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Whittle. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, James, Hannah and Ann.  She was the third oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 75 in 1865 in Bolton.
