Alice Mather

Alice was born on May 11th, 1856 in Westhoughton.¹

Alice's father was Joseph Mather and her mother was Jane (Ann) Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Geffrey (Jeffery) Mather and Catherine Gregory. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Jeffrey, Catherine, Alice, Ann, Ellen and Mary. She was the fifth oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 79 on July 28th, 1935 in Washington.²

- In 1861 Alice (4) was in Westhoughton with parents James and Jane and aged 14 in 1871, born Westhoughton.
  
  In Q2 1877, Alice Mather married Joseph Hilton at Bolton (need a copy of Marriage Cert to confirm correct Alice) but seems very likely as first two children named after her closest surviving siblings..
  
  In 1881, Alice Hilton (23) was described as the daughter of Alice Hilton (60, head), with her first two sons Jeffrey (3) and Joseph (7mo). Birth records confirm the mother's maiden name was Mather. Joseph was absent.
  
  The family emigrated to Iowa, USA before Reuben was born in 1886.
