Alice was born in 1886 in Atherton.1  Alice's father was William Mather and her mother was Ann Caldwell.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Mather and Betsy Morris. She had six brothers and a sister, named James, Charles, John, William, Thomas, Frederick and Ann.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
