Thomas was born in 1820 in Barnton.1  Thomas' father was John Manning and his mother was Betty (Elizabeth) Edwards.  His maternal grandparents were Charles Edwards and Elizabeth Tomlinson. He had a brother and three sisters, named Charles, Mary, Ann and Elizabeth.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 71 in 1891 in Farndon.  He was buried on April 3rd, 1891 at St. Chad (Farndon).

‌Thomas and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony on December 28th, 1855 at St. Nicholas (L'pool).3   They had three sons and two daughters, named John, Thomas, Ellis, Frances and Jane.  The family line is yet to be completed.
