Mary's father was John Lomax and his mother was Jane Watson. His paternal grandparents were James Lomax and Mary Taylor. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Maria and Eliza. He was the youngest of the five children. He had two half-sisters named Ann and Sarah.

General Notes
- Parents are possibly a bit old to have Jane born in 1809, so may be the daughter of the other John and Jane marriage at Prestwich in 1808.
