William was born in November 1831 in Little Bolton and his baptism took place on November 13th, 1831 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  William's father was John Lever and his mother was Betty Mather. He had a brother and three sisters, named James, Sarah, Charlotte and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the five known children.
