John was born on March 27th, 1803 in Warrington and his baptism took place on September 1st, 1803 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  John's father was Peter Jackson and his mother was Sally (Sarah) Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Mather and Sarah Clare. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Henry, James, Peter, James, Richard, William, Martha, Sarah and Mary.  He was the nineth oldest of the ten children.
