Mary's father was Gyles Howarth and her mother was Alice Pomfret.  Her paternal grandparents were Giles Howarth and Mary Yates. She had a sister named Grace.  She was the older of the two children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Richard, Henry, Margaret and Mary.  She died at the age of 3 in February 1741 in Lower Darwen.  She was buried on March 2nd, 1741 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Blackburn).¹
