John was born on August 13th, 1785 in Micklethwaite and his baptism took place on August 28th, 1785 at All Saints (Bingley).1  John's father was James Hopkinson and his mother was Mercy Walsh.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Walsh and Mary Bear.  He was an only child.
