Benjamin's father was Edmund Holt and his mother was Ellen Hamers. He had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Mary, Sarah and Nancy.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 59 in 1847 in Turton.  He was buried in 1847 at St. Anne (Turton).²
