Sarah was born in 1846.  Sarah's father was William Higginson and her mother was Mary Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were James Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Jameson. She had two brothers and a sister, named Joseph, James and Eliza.  She was the second oldest of the four known children.
