Samuel's father was James Hibbert and his mother was Margaret Brewis.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Hibbert and Martha Smith. He had two sisters named Martha and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 80 on April 9th, 1954 in Melbourne.²
