Susan was born in 1834 in Harwood.1  Susan's father was John Greenhalgh and her mother was Hannah (Ann) Bridge. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Ellis, Richard, Stephen, John, Hannah and Leah.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
