Robert was born in 1817 in Harwood and his baptism took place on July 27th, 1817 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Robert's father was Richard Greenhalgh and his mother was Ann Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Ann Howarth. He had two brothers named Thomas and John. He had an adopted brother and an adopted sister, named Richard and Mary.  He died at the age of 25 in September 1842 in Harwood.  His burial was on September 21st, 1842 at St. Peter's (Bolton).
